With the expert committee backing the reservation of Bio Diversity Park (BDP) in the Development Plan (DP) while urging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to preserve it,the members of the Green Pune Movement have decided to write to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan requesting him to accept the panel report.

The state government had approved the DP for 23 fringe villages but had kept BDP issue in abeyance. The government had set up an expert committee to decide its fate.

In its report submitted on May 10,2012,the panel recommended that BDP be reserved in the DP and it should be civic body’s mission to preserve it. The report also said that compensation of four per cent should be given in the form of transfer of development rights (TDR) to the land owners with an incentive of two per cent more of the area if the land is voluntarily given within a year.

“The report is a vindication of Green Pune Movement’s activities over the past 7 years,” said Satish Khot of Green Pune Movement.

He said it has been more than four months since the report was submitted to the Mantralaya. “We do feel it is necessary to get the state government accept the report and preserve the BDP. Thus,we have decided to send telegrams to the Chief Minsiter urging him to accept the report,” Khot said.
