A magistrate court on Wednesday granted bail to Muskan Sameer Shaikh (32),who was arrested for abandoning her baby. She had earlier claimed that unidentified persons snatched her baby outside KEM Hospital. The court ordered her release against a bail of Rs 8,000 with one or two sureties. The 29-day old baby girl is still missing.
Shaikh was produced before the court after her one-day magisterial custody ended on Wednesday. The police had requested the court to grant seven-day custody to Muskan Shaikh on grounds that they wanted to investigate the whereabouts of the baby, who is still missing,to investigate about the rickshaw driver who apparently was known to Shaikh,to seize the SIM card used by her and to investigate about other accomplices of Shaikh,if any. The court, however, stated that the one-day police custody granted to her on Tuesday was sufficient and remanded her in judicial custody.
Shaikh, through her lawyers Samrat Rawate and Varsha Takawale, had sought bail. Shaikh of Mominpura had confessed that she had abandoned her 29-day-old baby girl Sadira at Dnadekar Bridge as she got fed up with the high costs incurred in her treatment. Senior inspector of Samarth police station Ganpat Nikam said Shaikh had claimed that she was called to the KEM Hospital by doctors for her babys treatment and while returning unidentified persons snatched her baby.
Suspecting a foul play, rigorous police interrogation of Shaikh revealed that her cell phone was at her home, though she had claimed that it was also taken away.
