The 58th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) 2014 in small bore rifle and pistol events will be organised by the National Rifle Association of India at Balewadi shooting ranges between December 13 and 24, said Ashok Pandit, Organising Secretary of the championship, at a press conference held in the city on Friday.
Sheila Kanungo, President, Maharashtra Rifle Association, and Organizing Chairperson of the competition was also present during the conference.
National Shooting Championship Competitions is the highest official shooting competition in India. Pune will be hosting the championship for the second time.
As many as 2,800 shooters from across the country and over 500 shooters from Maharashtra will take part in the competition.
Some of the star players who would stake a claim for the championship include India’s first Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Anjali Bhagwat, Vijay Kumar, Rahi Sarnobat, Jitu Rai, Heena Sidhu, Ayonika Paul and other upcoming players such as Ravi Kumar, Pooja Ghatkar, Apurvi Chandela, Sanjeev Rajput, Elizabeth Koshi.
The competition will have 13 open categories. Both rifle and pistol events will be conducted in Junior and Youth categories.
As many as 15 senior shooters from Maharashtra have extended their support to 35 officials who have come from different parts of the country to conduct the competitions.
