Panic gripped Wadgaon Maval on Friday following four explosions took place near the local court. Police investigations revealed that the explosions were triggered by a mixture of Navsagar and Gandhak,(ammonium chloride and copper sulphate) stocked by a family of nomadic tribe hailing from Madhya Pradesh who arrived in Wadgaon Maval a few days ago.

Wadgaon Maval police have arrested two persons — Bajaklal Handilal Rajput Sisodiya (50) and Rubibang Swarabchand Rajput Chauhan (40) — while the search for the third accomplice Rajkumar, who escaped from the spot,is on . All three have been booked under Sections 286 (negligenct conduct with respect to explosive substance),336 (act endangering life and personal safety of others),34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of Explosives Substances Act,1908.

Police said four families belonging to a nomadic tribe from Madhya Pradeh arrived in Wadgaon Maval a few days ago. These families do petty works to earn their livelihood. One of the families had stocked explosive mixture of Navsagar and Gandhak, which they use for hunting wild pigs.

The explosive mixture was kept near the spot where the family was cooking food for lunch. Police suspect that the mixture may have gone off owing to the heat generated by the cooking fire and sun.

Police said the mixture triggered four explosions, causing panic in Wadgaon Maval market area near the court.

Senior police officers, including superintendent of Pune rural police Manoj Lohiya, visited the spot for investigations. Police confirmed there was no motive to create terror.

Police, however, said the explosive mixture was stocked illegally. Sub-inspector Pratap Suryawanshi is investigating the case.
