To apprise visitors of the latest technologies,innovations and opportunities in the Indian livestock sector,informative films will be screened at Pashudhan 2013 – the livestock industry fair.
Organised by Kisan Forum,the three-day fair that focusses exclusively on animal husbandry,will be held on Deccan College Grounds,Yerawada,from Monday.
As many as 30 films will be showcased on topics like shrimp culture,reservoir fisheries management,freshwater prawn hatcheries,hygienic meat and meat product processing,sheep rearing for carpet and fine wool production,rural poultry production for income and household nutritional security,mineral mixture for increased animal productivity,hygienic milk and milk product processing. An auditorium has been created at the venue where the films will be screened for 10 hours a day.
While Hindi and English films have been sourced from the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR),Marathi films were received from Nimitya.
Elaborating on the idea of showcasing films and how it will help the participants,Niranjan Deshpande,director of Kisan Forum,said,Through the films,the farmers will get to see various farms and processes of irrigation. In 30 minutes,they will be able to see the life-cycle of production – frm seeding of fish to harvesting. This is crucial for most businesses in livestock or farming.
He added that the farmers could even purchase copies of the films to train their workers. The films have lectures and demonstrations by senior scientists.
Films will be selected on visitors interest. As a majority of the farmers will be from Maharashtra,Marathi films will be given preference, said Deshpande.
Apart from the film festival,kisan manch,a lecture series on various aspects of this sector; knowledge park,a forum for the farmers to access the latest trends and insights into the industry; goat rearing – study tour,a visit to seven goat-breeding centres in Pune District,will be the other highlights of the fair.
