Panjab University Senate elections: Results for professors, assistant, associate professors constituencies announced

The results for the Senate elections for professors and assistant, associate professors constituencies were announced on Wednesday.

The results for the Senate elections for professors and assistant, associate professors constituencies were announced on Wednesday.

The four-way contest for the seats was dominated by Keshav Malhotra group and Navdeep Goyal group with both of them winning one seat each from the respective constituencies. The professors constituency saw a polling percentage of 98 per cent. A total 239 votes were polled for the professors constituency out of 244. Rajesh Gill from the sociology department and member of Keshav Malhotra group won the two seats in the professor constituency. While the other seat was bagged by Rajat Sandhir from the biochemistry department and member of Navdeep Goyal group.

While assistant and associate professors saw a polling percentage of 96 per cent. Out of 506 voters, 486 were polled for this constituency. The two seats were won by Ajay Ranga from University Institute of Legal Studies of Navdeep Goyal group and Parveen Goyal from the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) of Keshav Malhotra group.

Five booths were set up for polling. The new term will start from November 1. With the conclusion of professors and assistant professors constituency, one phase of the Senate elections is left. The election for heads and professor of assistant/associate professors of affiliated colleges will be held on September 25. The result for the regional Chandigarh Panjab University Lab and Technical Staff Association were also announced.

Sanjeev Verma was elected the president from DSSBUICET, Thakur Das was elected the vice- president from CIL, Ashok Chauhan as secretary from UIET department, Mohan Singh as joint secretary from the department of microbiology and Lakshman Yadav was elected as the treasurer from the Energy Research Centre.
