Even as the Enforcement Wing of the Municipal Corporation(MC) has removed nearly 700 posters in the last few days put up by youth political parties on walls outside city colleges ahead of Panjab University elections, the top brass is sitting over it when it comes to imposition of fine.

An official of the Enforcement Wing stated that they had sent the details to the officials concerned.

The official in-charge of imposing fines, however said that the Finance Secretary had asked to discuss the matter, nothing was done till now.

A communication was sent by the official incharge to the Finance Secretary asking under what act they should impose such fines. KD Sharma, the official concerned said, “ The matter hasn’t been discussed till now. So as of now we can’t impose fines.”

Commissioner MC Baldeo Purushartha did not respond despite several calls made to him

The MC had slapped a fine of nearly Rs 53 lakhs on the political parties for putting up posters of their leaders on pillars and walls in the city last year ahead of PU polls. However, they failed to recover even a penny.

In defence, the officials said that nobody was ready to agree that the posters were theirs and blamed it on the rival party instead.

When a fine is not recovered, the cases are sent to the DC office to take action in which a property can be attached. But no action was taken there as well.
