A woman head constable of Haryana Police who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 was on Monday produced before the Special CBI Court and remanded to judicial custody.
The accused, Ritu Rani, was posted in ACP Kalka’s office. She was booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The action was taken following a complaint by a Kalka resident who used to run a business of mattresses. He alleged that two Home Guard personnel had came to his house and told him there was a complaint against him and his wife. They said that he should meet the accused Head Constable in the office of ACP, Kalka, in this regard.
He visited the said office and met Head Constable Rani, who allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for dropping the complaint against him and his wife. The first instalment of Rs 5,000 was to be given when the CBI laid a trap near the Chandigarh Housing Board, Chandigarh, and caught her red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. Searches were conducted on the premises of the accused. The arrested accused was produced in the court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandigarh, and remanded to judicial custody.
