While a seven-member panel was appointed to probe the Kalbadevi incident, where a massive fire led to the collapse of an old structure killing three firefighters, Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta said that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is looking at an overall revamp of the Mumbai Fire Brigade. This includes a re-look at the human resource factor, ways of mobilising the workforce and also adequate training for fire officials.

“It was a major incident where we lost three of our senior officials and the chief fire officer is still battling for his life in the hospital. We are definitely looking at an overall revamp of the department. We are looking at various issues including purchase orders, human resource component and operational and training for officials. We will get a clearer picture once the panel submits its report,” said Mehta.
