Kandivali Police booked on Tuesday 28-year-old housewife Kritika Patel, who allegedly jumped off the 18th floor of an underconstruction building with daughter Jaini on Monday, for murder of the two-year-old.

Police said Kritika had left a suicide note in Gujarati that she took the drastric step unable to keep family members happy. She,however, said no family member should be blamed for the suicide.

Police have registered an accidental death case and are waiting to record statements of her parents, who stay in Borivali.

“The parents were not in a state to record statements on Monday. They were to meet us on Tuesday but could not as they were distraught after the last rites of Kritika and her daughter,” said a police officer.

Police are probing why Kritika was depressed. “If her parents make any allegations,we will change the line of investigation,” said Jaywant Hargude,ACP (Malwani Division).

Kritika’s father asked police on Tuesday to hand over the body to her husband Kaushal,a construction supervisor. “The statements of Kaushal and his parents have been recorded but they have not revealed anything that will help establish the motive behind the suicide,” said a police officer.
