A woman officer was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 at the sales tax department headquarters in south Mumbai, the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) claimed Wednesday.

Two ACB teams were working independently on different complaints against Sunita Waidande. Both caught her at the same time Tuesday at Vikrikar Bhavan in Mazgaon.

ACB said a steel trader wanted a sales tax notice revoked for which Waidande demanded Rs 1 lakh bribe. After much bargaining, she settled for Rs 80,000 but the trader approached ACB. In the second case,Waidande sought Rs 10,000 to waive a penalty imposed on a garment trader for delay in payment of sales tax. The trader was to pay Rs 8,000 for 2008-09 but the amount increased to Rs 44,730 with penalties. H e agreed to pay but complained to ACB.
