A physically challenged commuter alleged Thursday that she was beaten up by a pregnant lady inside a compartment for the physically challenged in a down fast local train in Bandra. Rosy L Fernandes (48),a below-knee amputee, filed an FIR against Seema Gupta (27) for allegedly punching and kicking her. Gupta too filed an FIR against Fernandes for manhandling her.

The incident occurred when Fernandes asked Gupta to stand at a distance from her artificial leg as she needed to keep it straight.

Fernandes,a resident of Naigaon, said,“The lady had already fought with two disabled commuters soon after entering the compartment. When she came and stood right next to me,I asked her to stand at a distance so that I could keep my artificial leg straight. She paid no heed to my request and I gently pushed her hand to make her understand that I was feeling uncomfortable. However, she hit me in the eye and kicked me until other commuters came to my rescue.”

Gupta was travelling in the compartment as pregnant women are allowed to travel in compartments reserved for the physically challenged.

Angry over the assault, commuters pulled the alarm chain before the train came to a halt at Borivali station.

Gupta was handed over to the Railway Protection Force . Both Gupta and Fernandes approached the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Borivali to lodge a complaint. There were sent to GRP Bandra, which registered a cross-complaint in the case.
