The Bhandup police on Tuesday arrested a woman for allegedly kidnapping a two-year-old boy from the area. According to the police, the accused,Fatima Khan (30),has in the past picked up children for begging near dargahs in the past, too. She would later return the kids to their families, the police said.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when the child,Abdul Khan, was playing outside his house in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. However,a while later, his parents realized that he had gone missing. Abdul’s father then approached the police and lodged a complaint.

“The boy’s father approached us saying his son had gone missing. We suspected that Fatima may have been involved as as she has done similar things in the past,” said senior inspector Shrirang Nadgauda.

“We learnt that she had her mobile phone with her,and began tracking it. On Tuesday at 1 pm,she got off at the Bhandup station, where a team of officers was posted. They immediately nabbed her,” said Nadgauda.

Fatima has been booked under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code. The police have also reunited the toddler with his family.

“She has confessed to having taken children for begging. She will be produced in court on Wednesday,” said Nadgauda.
