A housewife from Mira Road allegedly bludgeoned her abusive husband to death with a hammer on Thursday night. Officers from the Mira Road police station arrested one Neetu Singh (45),the wife of a supposed retired army man,for killing him after an argument between them. Though the police are yet to ascertain the profession of the husband,Mangal Singh,the residents of the building claim that he was a retired army man.
As per the Mira Road police station,where a case of murder has been registered,the deceased,Mangal Singh (47) used to stay with his wife Neetu in Nirmal Nagar Society at Sai Baba Nagar in Mira Road since the past one year. On Friday morning,Neetu came down from the building and informed the watchman that her husband has been injured and that she needed his help. The watchman,Ramsakal Saundhiya informed the other residents of the society and they all rushed to the flat and discovered Mangal lying on the bed in a bloodied condition, said API R Khobre from the Mira Road police station.
The residents informed the police,who rushed to the spot and took Mangal to a local hospital where he was declared dead. During interrogation,the wife confessed to having killed her husband on Thursday night after he assaulted her in a drunken condition. As per the arrested accused,her husband used to get drunk regularly and after getting into an argument with her,used to verbally and physically abuse her. Some of the residents of the building have also told us that the couple used to have loud fights almost every night after the husband would get drunk, said Khobre. The couple has a 16-year-old son who studies in a boarding school outside the city,said the police.
As per the police,Neetu killed her husband with the hammer on Thursday night and informed the security guard the next morning. She must have spent the whole night in the same house with the corpse . We have charged her with murder and have sent her to the hospital for medical check up. She would be produced in court at the earliest. We are also going to enquire if the deceased was a retired army man and if yes,in what capacity did he serve the defence force, added Khobre.
