Despite police nakabandis and other policing measures aimed at curbing bag and chain snatching incidents on the Western Express Highway, two men on a motorcycle snatched a bag from an US-based woman travelling in an auto rickshaw on Tuesday night.

The incident took place on the Western Express Highway towards the south-bound lane near the Bandra-Khar flyover when the victim, identified as Sonia Ogracole, was travelling towards Bandra from the international airport. Ogracole, 42, who works at a private firm in Texas in USA was on her way to stay with her friend in Bandra.

In her statement to the police, Ogracole told the police that her bag contained cash and valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh, including 500 US Dollar, two expensive Phones worth over Rs one lakh, and Rs 30,000 in cash.

The bag also contained her passport. The Kherwadi Police officers said that on the basis of the complaint, an FIR had been registered. “We suspect the two men were following the victim from the airport, but after reaching the highway, they got a chance to target her and flee,” said an officer from Kherwadi police station.
