Two held for robbery in jewellery store

THE THANE police on Saturday arrested two persons for the break-in at an Ambernath-based jewellery store on Sunday. The accused had fled with jewellery and cash worth Rs 2.36 crore. The police have so far recovered over Rs 1.75 crore from the duo.

An officer from Thane police said the incident took place on Sunday when the accused entered Sagar Jewellers at Shivaji Chowk in Ambernath by breaking open the locks and cutting the window grille and fled with cash and jewellery. An FIR was registered at the Shivaji Nagar police station and several teams were formed to catch the accused.

The Thane police identified one of the accused as Vinod Singh (49) and arrested him from his Mira Road residence. The police recovered jewellery worth Rs 87 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash from his house. After interrogating him, the police found the second accused, Paras Jubeliya (45), and arrested him from Borivali. The police recovered gold worth Rs 89 lakh from him.
