Mumbai Police commissioner Arup Patnaik on Thursday submitted a confidential progress report to the Bombay High Court with respect to the action taken against former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh.

The report was submitted as per the order of the court on February 23,which had asked the Mumbai Commissioner of Police to investigate the case.

The court noted that the case is now pending in the apex court and that it need not pass any orders at present. The matter has now been adjourned indefinitely in the high court.

In a scathing order given on February 23,the court had directed the registration of an FIR against Singh under sections of disproportionate assets and criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988. The court had noted that he had a “rags to riches” story and that he had acquired more than a dozen immovable assets after 2004.

The directives were given in response to a public interest litigation filed by activist Sanjay Tiwari.
