Three arrested for stealing diamonds

The Dindoshi police have arrested three students who allegedly broke into a diamond polishing unit in Goregaon and made away with diamonds worth Rs 80,000 from there early on March 20.

The Dindoshi police have arrested three students who allegedly broke into a diamond polishing unit in Goregaon (East) and made away with diamonds worth Rs 80,000 from there early on March 20. What did them in was a note one of the three had written in the register at the unit — the police matched the handwriting and nabbed the accused.

According to the police,the trio — Ramesh Pawar (19),Ravindra Pawar (21) and Ganesh Pawar (20) — had initially planned to visit Siddhivinayak Temple with three of their friends on March 19. The three are residents of Wadaipada on Rani Sati Marg in Goregaon (East) and had planned to attend kakad aarti at the temple. The six youths had also arranged for two motorcycles for the trip. However,the three accused reached the spot where all of them were to meet,they found that the three others had left without them.

“These three then hit upon a plan to loot a diamond polishing unit in the vicinity. The three accused,all college students,got inside the unit through a window and made away with 1,671 pieces of unpolished diamonds. The three then fished out the register at the unit and one of them wrote ‘I love my company’ on it,” said assistant inspector Mohan Patil.

On Wednesday,the police received a tip-off about the accused,following which the three were detained. Theymatched the handwriting with that in the note. The handwriting of one of the accused matched and the police arrested the three.
