Tempo driver arrested for ramming into traffic cop

A 35-year-old tempo driver was arrested by Dahisar police for allegedly injuring an on-duty traffic constable by ramming his tempo into him on Saturday.

A 35-year-old tempo driver was arrested by Dahisar police for allegedly injuring an on-duty traffic constable by ramming his tempo into him on Saturday.

Police said the constable,Balkrishna Tukaram Dawre (41),attached with Borivali traffic post was on duty at Dahisar (east) when the accident took place. Dawre is a resident of Sant Kabeer Road in Dahisar (East).

On Saturday,Dawre was managing traffic at Shivvallabh cross Road in Rawalpada area of Dahisar (east) around 4.10 pm when Madhav Khandu Dahibhate rammed into him.

Dawre had signalled Dahibhate to stop to let traffic from the other direction pass. However,Dahibhate,who was speeding,did not heed to Dawre and drove straight into him,said police.

“Dawre’s left leg got stuck under the wheel of the tempo when it came to a sudden halt after the driver applied brakes realising he had hit the constable,” said Ansar Pirjade,senior inspector of Dahisar police. While Dawre was rushed to the nearby Shrikrishna Hospital,Dahibhate was arrested and a case was registered against him.
