Teenager held for kidnapping, raping minor

The police has identified the accused as Abdul Mullah, 19, a resident of Shahu Nagar who works in a Dadar based hotel.

The Shahu Nagar police have arrested a teenager for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor in a compound of a power company’s substation on Tuesday near Dharavi. The police said the seven-year-old victim was lured by the offer of twenty rupees from the accused.

The police has identified the accused as Abdul Mullah, 19, a resident of Shahu Nagar who works in a Dadar based hotel.

According to the police, the victim and her younger brother are under the care of their 60-year-old grandmother. “At around 11.30 am on

Tuesday when the the victim’s grandmother went to the substation, where she sweeps the premises for a living, she took her grandchildren along with her,” said Ramdas Naikude, a police sub inspector with the Shahu Nagar police.

Police have said that the victim in her statement has mentioned that Mullah had approached the victim when she was at a distance from her family and gave her rupees twenty on the condition that she would go into a room inside the substation with her.

“Enticed by the offer, the victim followed her rapist into the premises, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted,” Naikude added.

According to the police, the girl was screaming for help when passersby intervened and nabbed Mullah. The girl was immediately rushed to Sion Hospital where she is still admitted for observation.

“The minor is stable, and is out of danger,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, spokesperson for the Mumbai police. The police said that there are two witnesses to testify the incident and have charged Mullah for rape and kidnapping under the IPC .
