Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation (MFUCTO) is up in arms against Shivajirao Moghe,Minister for Social Justice. It has threatened to demonstrate against the minister to protest nonpayment of sixth pay commission arrears to teachers of social work colleges.
MFUCTO members alleged the department of social welfare and justice and the minister were delaying the payment.
The higher and technical education department issued a GR implementing the 6th pay revision in August 2009,but the department of social justice issued the order in September 2011,after a delay of 25 months. The actual implementation of the scheme started only in April 2012. This has resulted in arrears from January 2006 to March 2012. We condemn the lack of seriousness the department is showing regarding the unexplained delay, said Federation President Shivajirao Patil.
MFUCTO said the Centre was supposed to release arrears from January 2006 to March 2010,while the remaining component from April 2010 to March 2012 was to be paid in cash by the ministry of social justice. We staged a dharna on October 10 to highlight the issue. However, the ministry failed to commit. We are planning to ask the Chief Minister to intervene, Patil said.
MFUCTO claimed when its delegation met Moghe on October 10,the minister did not read their memorandum and dismissed their request saying he would look into the matter.
If the matter is not resolved at the earliest we will demonstrate against the minister. We want the state to undo the injustice done to teachers in colleges of social work by immediately paying the arrears, said Madhu Paranjape, senior member of MFUCTO.
A senior official in the social welfare and justice department responded: We are already working to resolve the matter. It is a huge amount,so it will take time. The teachers must understand and have patience.
