The Bhandup police is on the lookout for a 32-year-old tailor for allegedly murdering his colleague in the garment shop where they worked.

The Bhandup police said that the deceased, 20-year-old Rajeshkumar Bharti, also a tailor, was stabbed at around 10 am over a petty matter in Bhandup (East) and succumbed to his injuries even before being admitted to the hospital.

According to the police, the unknown accused had allegedly punctured the heart of the victim with a pair of scissors Tuesday night, killing him instantly.

“The accused got into a heated argument with Bharti over where to position his sewing machine in the shop. In the course of the argument, the accused seems to have reacted so violently that he picked up the victim’s largest pair of scissors and stabbed him with it in his chest,” said Pratap Chavan senior police inspector with the Bhandup police.

Chavan said that that Barti’s heart was punctured by the incident as the wound was at least three inches deep.

The police added that there appears to be no concrete motive behind the attack and are making inquiries whether the accused has a history of any mental illness.

“There were a few witnesses who saw the incident, but none of them nabbed the accused as they immediately attended to Bharti who was excessively bleeding at that time and the accused, in the meanwhile, slipped away,” Chavan added.

The police said that the victim’s brother, Dineshkumar, is also a tailor and was present in the store at the time of the incident.

“Dineshkumar is the complainant in the case and had sustained a serious cut on his arm after the accused lashed out on him too,” Chavan said.

The police have charged the unknown accused person, who is still at large, for murder and attempt to murder under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
