The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) on Saturday suspended 13 doctors for flouting norms of the Pre Conception Pre-Natal Detection Techniques Act (PCPNDT) Act.

The suspended doctors were practising in Beed,Jalgaon and Pune. Apart from these 13 doctors, two from Mumbai have been booked. These two doctors, however, have not been registered with the MMC yet.

“On Saturday,we suspended 13 doctors across the state, the majority of them in Beed. There are two other gynaecologists from Mumbai about whom the state reported to us,but their names do not show up in our database. We have requested for their registration numbers so that we can verify again,” said MMC executive member Dr S Utture.

The suspension of the doctors is temporary and the matter has been taken to court. Following the hearing in each case, the MMC will decide the further course of action. “The MMC as the governing body has suspended these doctors and their registration will not be renewed. However if they are acquitted by the court,we will act accordingly,” said Utture.
