BJP said Tuesday the Supreme Court verdict lifting the ban on dance bars was a result of the government not building a strong case.

State party president Devendra Fadnavis said,“The government lacked political. Had the government been serious about the ban,it would have ensured it stood in courts. Technicalities were overlooked in drafting the Act.

“Allowing dance in five-star hotels and banning it in bars invited legal admonition.”

Leader of opposition in the state council Vinod Tawde said,“The government has repeatedly failed to argue its case in courts. On several occasions, lawyers have let down the government despite legislature support.”

Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe said,“The government should make amendments in the Act. The ban on dance bars should continue. But the government should also give thought to rehabilitation of women employed in the bars.

“Loss of livelihood is a serious cause, which the courts have rightly pointed out.”

Another leader Ramdas Kadam said Sena would strongly oppose lifting of the ban. “The dance bar had become a cause of misery for several thousand families,it cannot be allowed to function.”
