Eleven days after Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan reinstated suspended IAS officers Jairaj Phatak and Pradeep Vyas, the state government Friday assigned them new postings.

The duo had been under suspension for 26 months for their alleged role in the Adarsh housing society scam.

On May 19, the Chavan government had revoked their suspension. While Phatak, a former Mumbai municipal commissioner, has been appointed as the managing director of Maharashtra Petrochemicals Corporation, Vyas will take charge as member-secretary of the Rest of Maharashtra Statutory Development Board.

A senior state official pointed out that both are light postings. “Norms require the government to assign non-executive postings to reinstated officials against whom inquiries are pending.”

Chavan also approved transfers of five other IAS officials. Senior IAS officer Anand Kulkarni, who hails from the 1982 batch, has been appointed managing director of Maharashtra State Financial Corporation.

Manisha Verma, a 1993 batch officer, who recently repatriated to the state cadre, will take over as secretary and commissioner (Investments and Protocol) at Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi.

Others to be assigned new postings included SB Patil, Sanjay Khandare, SP Kadu-Patil, and Sonali Waigankar.
