SPV to push Chiplun-Karad line: Maharashtra, railway ministry sign MoU

The Chiplun-Karad project is important as it will serve as a bridge between the Konkan region and western Maharashtra, thereby facilitating greater development in the region, sources said.

THE STATE government and the Union railway ministry Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the setting up of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to push the construction of a new railway line between Chiplun and Karad. The Chiplun-Karad project is important as it will serve as a bridge between the Konkan region and western Maharashtra, thereby facilitating greater development in the region, sources said.

The state government is also pursuing with the railway ministry work on the Thane railway station platforms, work on making elevated corridors across Mumbai to provide better travel facilities and the phase 3 of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu, were present at the event where the MoU was signed.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said: “The state and the Union railway ministry has also given the nod for nine mega-projects worth Rs 23,000 crores. The details of the projects were also discussed on Sunday.”

The state and the Centre are also expediting the process for Vadsa-Desaiganj- Gadchiroli, Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded, Nagar-Parli-Beed railway line projects.
