Police have detained two sons of Hiraben Mehta,90,who was found murdered at her Masjid Bunder residence on Tuesday afternoon,as there were contradictions in their statements. Mehta was found dead at her Sharaddhanand Building apartment with an assault wound on her throat around 2 pm.

Police said,“She had three sons. On Tuesday, one of the sons — Vinod — had rushed to a jewellery store where her youngest son Arvind was purchasing ornaments for his daughter’s wedding. He had told Arvind that their mother had been found dead. They ran back home, and found their mother lying in a pool of blood. Her other son Jamundas was also present in the room.” The body was later taken to J J Hospital for autopsy. Police said the cause of death appears to be a fatal wound on her throat. They suspect an insider’s hand in the case as there was no proof of any forced entry and no valuables were missing from the house. “Her sons told us that they had gone out for 30 minutes. We suspect something amiss. We are questioning the sons.”
