Six Nigerians held for trying to sell cocaine

The Vakola police on Monday arrested six men - all Nigerian nationals - from Santacruz East for possessing cocaine and allegedly trying to sell the drug.

The Vakola police on Monday arrested six men – all Nigerian nationals – from Santacruz East for possessing cocaine and allegedly trying to sell the drug. Around 25 gm of cocaine and two electronic weighing machines were recovered from their room,police said.

On a tip-off,the Vakola police raided the room in Gaikwad Chawl,Adarsh Nagar,around 10.30 pm on Monday. The accused – identified as Okoro Samuel Emaraka,Okeril James,Daniel Anago,Imamul Elakwa,Gaubiel Chiku and Okara Joseph Mayaha – are living in the city and are aged between 25 and 30 years,police said.

They were produced before a magistrate on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till October 22. They have been charged the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,1985. They have said they do not have passports and have been booked under the Passports Act,1967,too,police said.

“In such cases,the accused usually hide their passports and lie about their names and age. Three of the accused have been living in Santacruz East for the past 8-9 months while the others came to the country recently. A probe is on,” said inspector Uttam Pachpute.
