Peter Mukerjea will now be confined to the congested barrack of the high-security cell in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail until December 14.
While in the CBI’s custody, Peter was kept under continuous vigil with four men posted in shifts to guard him.
At the Arthur Road jail, however, the only special measure the prison department has taken is to keep him away from co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and Shyam Rai who are lodged in different barracks.
“He would be lodged in the high-security cell and receive the same treatment that other inmates get,” said Inspector General Bipin Singh.
During his police custody, Peter was served vegetarian food of his choice from restaurants in Nariman Point.
At the jail, he will be given food prepared according to the jail manual of prescribed calorie count and cooked by inmates.
“Peter did not move any application for home-cooked food or medicines before the court and therefore he will have the same food as the other inmates,” said a senior official.
