A special CBI court will hear former media honcho Peter Mukerjea’s bail application on January 16. Peter is the fourth accused in the murder of Sheena Bora, the daughter of his wife Indrani Mukerjea. He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in November on the same day that the agency filed its chargesheet against Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and former driver Shyamwar Rai. The trio is accused of murdering 24-year-old Bora in Bandra in April 2012, and burning and burying her body in a forest in Raigad district.
Peter has been accused of being part of the criminal conspiracy and misleading his son Rahul Mukerjea by telling him that Sheena had moved to the USA. Rahul and Sheena were engaged to be married.
The bail application filed in the CBI court, however, claims that charges against Peter are vague and not substantiated. “The chargesheet filed against the previous accused actually goes in Peter’s favour. It states that Indrani had lied to Peter about the murder,” claims advocate Kushal Mor.
He added that each of the application filed by the CBI to seek Peter’s custody assigns different roles of guilt to him.
“There are different reasons to seek custody in each remand application. There are also vague allegations of Peter’s financial transactions with Sheena being the reason for the murder,” he said.
The court did not hear his arguments on Tuesday and has posted the matter to January 16.
