Qualifier Aryan Sharma of Mumbai shocked fifth seed Aryan Soni of Aurangabad to give the main draw an explosive start,in the Parsram J. Vazirani Memorial All India Junior Open Talent Series Tennis Tournament for boys and girls under-12,at the Vazirani National Sports Academy,Nerul,Navi Mumbai on Monday.
Sharma captialised on Sonis slew of unforced errors to race to a 4-0,4-1 win in the first round to set up his next clash with lucky loser Hrushikesh Vaidya of Pune who prevailed over Rohan Ravi of Navi Mumbai 4-2,4-2.
Sixth seed Kapeesh Khandge of Pune survived an early scare before rallying to beat lucky loser Aditya Nikam of Mumbai. Khandge,who trains at Balewadi and PYC Gymkhana,recovered from the loss of a tight opening set in which he struggled to find his rhythm,to snatch a 3-5,4-0,4-1 win.
I lost the first set due to too many unforced errors, explained Khandge,of DAV Public School. Fortunately,I got my focus back and hit winners to dominate the second and third. Among the girls,qualifier Rochana Gopalakrishna of Tamil Nadu advanced to the second round following a convincing 4-0,4-1 win over unseeded Ila Dadhe of Pune.
