Security at US Consulate beefed up after attacks in Libya,Egypt & Yemen

Security outside the US consulate in south Mumbai has been beefed up following attacks on US missions in Libya,Egypt and Yemen.

Security outside the US consulate in south Mumbai has been beefed up following attacks on US missions in Libya,Egypt and Yemen. Cops have asked all personnel deployed outside the consulate to ensure that security remains on high alert.

Senior officers of the Mumbai Police are in touch with US officials and have held meetings to discuss the security situation. Officers revealed that additional personnel have been deployed outside the consulate despite the consulate having a large security contingent deployed there at all times,sources said.

“We have held meetings with officials from the consulate and are monitoring the situation on the ground. The security cover outside the consulate has been asked to be on high alert to ensure that nothing is left to chance. All personnel deployed have been asked to keep an eye out for any thing which may result in lawlessness near the consulate,” an officer said on conditions of anonymity.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Nisar Tamboli said police are keeping an eye for potential law and order issues. “Security outside the US consulate is already high. Our personnel have now been asked to be more vigilant,” Tamboli said.

There have been attacks on several US missions all over the world following protests by Muslims against a film which they consider blasphemous. On Tuesday,US envoy to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other officials died after some persons opened fire at the US consulate in Libya. US consulates in Libya and Egypt were also attacked on Thursday.
