School bus runs over 6-year-old

The Oshiwara police said that the boy identified as Farhan Firoz Khan is a pavement dweller.

A six-year-old child was run over by a speeding school bus in Jogeshwari Wednesday evening. The Oshiwara police have arrested the bus driver on charges of death due to negligence.

The Oshiwara police said that the boy identified as Farhan Firoz Khan is a pavement dweller. At 6 pm on Wednesday he was crossing the Relief Road opposite Ashiyana Towers in Jogeshwari (West). According to the police, the accused, identified as Deepak Rajaram Gurav, 52, was driving the bus of GM International School located at Motilal Nagar in Goregaon (West) when the accident took place.

Gurav told police he was returning after dropping the students when he crashed into Khan. “The driver was speeding and did not see Khan crossing the road,” said B Vele, senior police inspector of the Oshiwara police station. The police have arrested Gurav and will present him before court on Thursday. “We have sent Gurav for  medical examination to check if he was  under the influence of alcohol,” added Vele.
