THE MUMBAI Police had last week arrested a sales assistant working at a vehicle showroom in Juhu for allegedly duping his employer.
As per the complaint given by the showroom officials, their 31-year-old employee, a graduate, had gone missing after selling off a customer’s second-hand four-wheeler as part of an exchange deal against a newer car.
The accused in the case has been working at the showroom for last few months, an officer said. As per the complaint given to the Juhu police, the accused was in negotiation with a customer who was interested in an exchange offer at the showroom where he could exchange his old vehicle and purchase a newer vehicle at a lower price.

The accused who was dealing with the customer, asked him to hand over his old SUV, an officer said. He was promised a new vehicle from the showroom for which he would have to pay the difference in price between the two vehicles.
As per the complaint, the accused instead of handing over the vehicle to the showroom, allegedly approached a broker directly, sold the old SUV for around Rs 5.5 lakh without informing them. When the showroom officials tried to contact him, he did not respond for over a week.
Following this, an FIR was registered at the Juhu police station in early November. The accused was finally arrested last week and is currently in police custody till Thursday. The police are in the process of recovering the money.
