ROBERT VADRA, businessman and husband of Priyanka Gandhi, visited Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi and Haji Ali Dargah while touring the city on Friday and Saturday.

Narendra Murari Rane, chairman of the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple Trust, said Vadra visited the temple at 7:30 pm on Friday and was there for around half an hour. “He (Vadra) had contacted me before his visit and told me that he wanted eleven kilos of laddoos, which we arranged. He came by himself and performed an aarti after which he distributed the laddoos among devotees at the temple premises,” Rane said.

On Saturday, Vadra visited Haji Ali Dargah at 11 am for 20 minutes. According to Suhail Khandwani, trustee of the shrine, he was accompanied by former Congress MLA Kripashankar Singh. After offering prayers at the dargah, Vadra distributed food to the people near the shrine. “He spoke to one of our trustees, advocate Usman Vanjara, and told him that he had been meaning to visit the shrine for a long time and will come since he was in the city,” Khandwani said.

Trustees of both the places denied having any knowledge of the purpose of his visit. When contacted, Congress party spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam said the visit was purely personal and had nothing to do with the Congress.
