Road mishap kills 20-yr-old youth in Trombay

A 20-year-old youth was killed and another person sustained injuries on Saturday after a speeding vehicle rammed them while crossing the road near Mankhurd railway station.

A 20-year-old youth was killed and another person sustained injuries on Saturday after a speeding vehicle rammed them while crossing the road near Mankhurd railway station.

According to the police,the accident took place at 4 am on the highway that leads to Vashi. However,a hit-and-run case has been registered against the driver of the speeding vehicle that hit the passers-by.

Tanaji Sitaram Chalke (20),a fish vendor and his friend Ananda Aba Kalje (35) were crossing the road to reach the Mankhurd station. Suddenly,a speeding vehicle that was coming from the flyover near the Mankhurd Railway station rammed them.

Though they were rushed to the Sion Hospital soon,Chalke was declared brought dead in the hospital. Kalje has escaped the accident with minor injuries,said the police. However,the Trombay police are investigating the case and tracing the whereabouts of the driver.
