The tussle between the members of the governing body of People’s Education Society (PES),that runs the Siddharth College of Commerce and Economics at Anand Bhavan,Fort, dates back to 2010. The college principal Dr Krishna Patil and some members of the management had removed two governing body members alleging that they were involved in fraudulent activities.

Dr M S Moray and Dr S P Gaikwad were removed from PES’s governing body. The members of governing body alleged that Moray had committed a fraud of Rs 56 lakh, sanctioned in 2009-10,towards infrastructural development of PES’s Dr. Ambedkar B.Ed college in Gaya,Bihar. Gaikwad had committed a fraud of Rs 15 crore,Patil and some governing body members alleged.

“Moray’s fraud came to light in an audit report and he was issued a showcause notice. We did not file a police complaint against Moray and gave him a chance to explain the situation. However, his reply was not satisfactory and the members removed him in January 2011. Moray has been illegally collecting money from principals of various colleges under PES,” said Patil, who is also assistant secretary of the governing body.

Patil added,“Even after being removed from the governing body,Moray and Gaikwad continued to work as its members. Moray even handled money transactions until he was restricted by us in May 2011. Moray and Gaikwad created a ruckus saying they were the only legal members out of the total 11 members. Despite the fact that the original governing body was functioning, the duo appointed five other members and formed a separate, illegal governing body. Now,to get back their place in the governing body,Moray and Gaikwad are taking the help of Prakash Ambedkar (Dr B R Ambedkar’s grandson) and Ambedkar in turn is using Moray and Gaikwad to enter the governing body of the college.”

However,Moray and Gaikwad have refuted all the allegations. They claimed that all the other members, except them, are illegal as their names are not listed with the charity commissioner. Gaikwad said,“Only three names are listed with the charity commissioner: Mine,Moray and K H Ranganath, who is the governing body chairman. Ranganath and his supporters in the body have removed us. They have accused us of committing a fraud and misappropriating funds. However, the audit reports are wrong.”

He added,“I have been associated with PES for 32 years and have been accused of committing a fraud of Rs 15 crore. I was issued a letter on June 11,2011 stating that they have removed me as a member of the governing council.”
