Record fines in railway ticket checking drives

Mumbai division of Central Railway,in its continuing efforts to curb ticketless / unauthorised journey,intensified ticket-checking drives through various special checks.

Mumbai division of Central Railway,in its continuing efforts to curb ticketless / unauthorised journey,intensified ticket-checking drives through various special checks.

In these drives during February alone,49,279 cases of ticketless / irregular travel including unbooked luggage have been detected as against 46590 cases detected in February 2008. Amount realised from these cases in February 2009 is Rs 1.21 crore as against Rs 1.11 crore in February last year,thus showing an increase of 9 per cent.

A total of 5.53 lakh cases were detected during the period from April 2008 ¿ February 2009 as against 5.18 lakh cases detected during the same period last year. The amount realised during April 2008 to February 2009 is Rs 14.60 crore as compared to Rs 12.95 crore realised during the same period last year,which shows a 12.75% rise.
