A real estate agent was arrested by the Versova Police on Sunday for allegedly murdering a 40-year-old woman whose body was found on Saturday. The police said they suspected that the woman was suffering from AIDS and was killed by the accused after an argument. The accused has also told the police that he paid for her treatment and had adopted the victim’s 14-year-old daughter.

The body was found near the BMC container in Siddharth Nagar on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Krishnanshu Sharma (40). The police said they suspected Sharma was involved in a sex racket.

Senior police inspector Nandkumar Mhetkar said,“Sharma told us he had a fight with the victim and stabbed her to death. He then tried to dispose of the body with the help of an ambulance driver who refused as he did not have a death certificate. Sharma called his friend and the victim’s daughter to his house. The body was then dumped in Siddharth Nagar,” said Mhetkar.

“When we went to the spot on Saturday,we called an ambulance to take the body for post-mortem. The ambulance driver told us that on Friday night, someone had asked him to help take a body to the crematorium but he had refused as the person did not have a death certificate. We asked the driver to take us to the person’s house,” said Mhetkar.

“After tracing the address,we went to Sharma’s house and arrested him,” said Mhetkar.

Mhetkar said Sharma has been booked under IPC Section 302 (murder). He added the victim’s daughter and Sharma’s friend, identified as Ashish, would be booked for destruction of evidence. “The trio will be produced in court on Monday. As the daughter is a minor, she will be tried under the Juvenile Justice Act,” said Mhetkar. Sharma has other cases registered against him at the Amboli and Oshiwara police stations, the police said.
