Home Minister R R Patil said government was ready to give land for housing to retired policemen if they form a society. He also announced CID inquiry into complaints regarding redevelopment work of two police colonies.
A proposal to allot land on ownership basis is being prepared if the retired policemen form a housing society. This will create 10,000 flats for policemen rendered homeless after retirement, Patil said.
He said the proposal, which is awaiting approval would address the housing need for retired policemen after they vacate government quarters.
Patil said housing for the police has become a pressing issue as many of the existing buildings have become dangerous to live in. He said repair work had been undertaken for most buildings and 3,100 houses would be ready by end of this year. Government will repair buildings and redevelop the old and dilapidated structures in Mumbai, Patil said.
Responding to allegations of large scale corruption in the repair and redevelopment work police housing raised by Sena MLC Ramdas Kadam,Patil assured CID inquiry in two matters.
