A Special Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) court on Friday granted bail to Vishay Handa,31,arrested for allegedly hosting a rave party at a Juhu hotel on May 21. The court granted him bail against a surety of Rs 5 lakh and on the condition that he would present himself at the Juhu police station every fortnight until a chargesheet is filed in the case.
Special judge I M Bohari also ordered the police to impound Handas passport.
Police arrested Handa for allegedly organising a party at Oakwood Hotel in which 110 gm of cocaine and 64 gm of charas were seized in a raid. The blood and urine samples of around 91 people were sent to hospitals to check for drug and alcohol consumption.
Handa,who was remanded in police custody for five days and has been in judicial custody since then,had moved a bail application claiming that he was director of Zillion Hotels and was the owner of the premises on which Oak Premier,a service apartment is constructed. He further claimed that he was in no way responsible for the management or business affairs of Oakwood.
Claiming that his client could not be held responsible for the acts of people who attended the party,Handas defence lawyer Satish Maneshinde said the party was organised by Designer Hippies,an event management group.
The raid was conducted by Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Vishwas Nangre-Patil,who rounded up around 91 people,including two IPL cricketers,some television actors,foreigners and a fashion designer. Police is awaiting their blood and urine sample reports to ascertain if the guests had consumed drugs.
Seven foreigners who were guests at the party have left the country.
