Home Minister R R Patil made a surprise visit to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus late Saturday night. He reportedly came without security at 10.45 pm and spent 20 minutes reviewing the security for women commuters on the suburban side of the station at odd hours. Pail is learnt to have interacted with women commuters of a few late-night locals and also entered a few compartments reserved for women commuters of five different trains and asked them about the level of safety at stations and platforms, said a senior railway police officer present at the station.
“The minister also asked women commuters about the response and behaviour of police personnel posted inside railway compartments,” said the officer.
It is learnt that Patil had not given any prior information to the police at CST station that has a total of 18 platforms, of which seven are for suburban railways.
After his interaction with commuters, Patil expressed his satisfaction on the security system to the police, which, by then, had learnt about his arrival.
