Junior cricket heavyweights Prithvi Shaw and Arman Jaffer continued to torment opposition bowlers, and led the way with the bat as Rizvi Springfield finished strongly on Day One of the Harris Shield final at the Brabourne Stadium. Shaw scored a mammoth 174,while Jaffer chipped in with 81 as the two right-handers took their school team to 348/5 on Monday against IES VN Sule Guruji. H Parab at least ensured that mighty Rizvi didn’t run away with the game completely, taking three of the five wickets to fall on the opening day of the three-day final.

Meanwhile, there were runs galore in the Giles Shield final too at the Fort Vijay ground in Azad Maidan with Al-Barkaat Malik Islam English School blazing away to 415/3 at the end of the first day’s play. Moin Khan ended up as the toast of the day, scoring an eye-catching 209.

St Xavier’s incidentally won the toss and elected to field. And Moin made them pay dearly for their decision. He faced only 260 deliveries during his knock and smashed a staggering 38 fours.

Along the way,Moin also shared a record stand of 233 in just 370 balls in the company of Arslan Khan, who proved a solid ally with a patient 158-ball 51.

Though the St Xavier’s bowlers did get rid of both Moin and Arslan, there was no respite for them as Mohammad Monis ensured that the carnage continued. Monis remained unbeaten on 65 off just 66 balls, hitting 11 boundaries.

And he’ll resume the Al-Barkaat first innings on Day Two alongside Rayhan Khan who also remained unbeaten on 48.
