Poll code: No scope for new proposals,165 pending ones cleared in a jiffy

With only two general body meetings left before the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections on February 16,corporators cleared 165 pending proposals in a jiffy,along with three purchase notices of land plots on an urgent basis.

With only two general body meetings left before the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections on February 16,corporators cleared 165 pending proposals in a jiffy,along with three purchase notices of land plots on an urgent basis. With the election code of conduct coming into effect from January 4,no new proposals can be passed and hence pending proposals of last January and April last year were passed.

The House had received a request from BJP corporator Bhalchandra Shirshat,who asked for six proposals about six separate purchase notices for land plots to be taken up on an urgent basis so that they do not lapse.

Of these,three were passed on Thursday and the remaining are expected to be passed in the next general body meeting on January 18. The ones passed include a plot in Malad east reserved for a recreational ground,which will be purchased by the BMC for Rs 4.5 crore. The others include a plot reserved for a park and a garden at Juhu at a cost of Rs 8.6 crore. The current Development Plan (DP) has marked the following reservations on these plots and the civic body has to buy them from the owners,once the latter sends them the purchase notices. If the BMC fails to acquire this land,the reservation lapses,giving the owner the right to construct upon or sell the land according to his discretion.

DP is a document based on land-use survey that reserves plots of land in the city for various purposes such as playground,recreational ground,garden,school,hospital etc for a period of 20 years. The civic body has to acquire the land from its owners for implementing these reservations by either compulsory acquisition under MRTP Act for vital reservations,purchase land from owners after he issues a purchase notice,get land from land owner in return of grant of TDR (transfer of development rights) to the owner or through accommodation reservation.
