A Special Sessions court on Tuesday reprimanded officers interrogating the eight Pakistani nationals brought to Mumbai on charges of transporting heroin across high seas, for failing to seize the boat they were travelling on or the satellite phones they were using.
“Without the custody of satellite phones and the boat, what are you investigating after 15 days with them in your custody?,” the judge said.
The court was hearing the second remand arguments of the four men belonging to the Pakistan’s Sindh province and the rest from Karachi. “You are coming before court for custody in such an important case. Considering the seriousness of the offence, the accused are remanded to police custody till may 8,” the judge observed.
Deputy Commissioner Of Police, Port Zone said that a team of officers was in Porbandar to examine the vessel.
“A team of officers in Porbandar is conducting a punchanama of the boat and the examining the Thuraya satellite phones. It is only after the team returns that we will know their findings. We had sought the custody of the accused as there are still many things we have to ask them about,” he said.
