Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria has been asked to provide details of his meeting with controversial former IPL chief Lalit Modi in London. “We have asked Maria to furnish everything officially to the government on statements he has made in media regarding his meeting with Lalit Modi,”Fadnavis said.
Asked if the government was going to take any action against the police chief, the chief minister said, “First let the information come to us. Based on that and other records, we will decide on further course of action.” Rakesh Maria is expected to give the information for official record within 24 hours, he added.
The “controversial” meeting between Maria and Modi came to light after news channels on Saturday flashed a picture showing both of them together in London.
Meanwhile, former Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Amitabh Rajan said, “Reports of such nature are always given confidentially and in writing. I heard about it for the first time through news channels on Saturday while in Delhi.”
