Ninth suspect arrested in Lohariya murder case

The crime branch has arrested a ninth person in connection with the murder of Navi Mumbai builder S K Lohariya.

The crime branch has arrested a ninth person in connection with the murder of Navi Mumbai builder S K Lohariya.

Developer and cable operator Bupesh Gupta (48) was picked up from Nerul Tuesday.

Police said Gupta was a close associate of absconding alleged conspirator Suresh Bijlani.

They are trying to ascertain if he has links with Bandya Mama,an aide of gangster Chhota Rajan,and whether he is involved in the murder.

On February 14,Lahoriya was attacked with choppers and shot outside his office in sector 28 Vashi. Gupta was named in the police complaint his Sandeep lodged.

He is accused of hatching a criminal conspiracy with Venkatesh Shettiar and Wajid Qureshi,developer Sumit Bacchewar,former police officer Emmanuel Amolik and others.

The crime branch suspects after a dispute,some builders hired contract killers from the Chhota Rajan gang to eliminate Lohariya.

“We are in the process of uncovering the conspiracy,” said an officer.

The crime branch said Bijlani and Garg,absconding since the murder,had properties in Navi Mumbai. “We laid traps but could not arrest them,” the officer said.

Police have moved court against the two and issued lookout notices. The application will come up for hearing on May 2.
