A nine-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man in his twenties in Antop Hill Friday night, police said. The girl is being treated at Sion Hospital.
According to the police officials, the girl went missing from her father’s shop in Antop Hill at 11.30 pm Friday. “She had been bursting crackers with her brother outside the shop under the father’s supervision. A few minutes later, the father went inside to clean the shop and the son went home, leaving the girl alone,” said an officer from the Wadala TT police station.
In her statements to the police, the girl said that a tall man in his twenties then kidnapped her and took her away from the shop. “Spotting his daughter missing, the father began to look for her in the vicinity and unable to find her, alerted his family and neighbours. At 1 am, however, the girl returned home, crying in pain and with her clothes torn. The family rushed her to Sion Hospital where an examination revealed that she had been sexually assaulted,” said the officer.
An FIR has been registered at Wadala TT police station and the accused has been booked for kidnapping under the IPC and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“We are searching the vicinity for suspects on the basis of description provided by the girl. No arrests have been made so far,” said the officer.
