Nine persons,including two minors,were killed and 18 injured in a collision between a private luxury bus and a car on the Mumbai-Nashik highway Saturday.
Maharashtra Highway Police said the accident occurred around 4 pm at Lahe Phata in Shahpur.
The luxury bus was going towards Mumbai when a motorcyclist tried to overtake it from the left. The bus driver,to avoid hitting the rider,swerved to the right. The bus veered to the opposite lane,hitting a car going towards Nashik, said an officer.
Passing motorists and residents of Shahpur village informed police. Ambulances and a police team reached the spot.
Thirty occupants of the vehicles were taken to Shahpur Hospital.
Nine victims were declared brought dead. Among them,two are teenagers. Eighteen people were admitted. We will register a case against the bus driver, said police inspector Sunil Wadke.
Some of the people travelling in the bus are residents of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. They were returning from a pilgrimage to Shirdi,the police said.
