Abhishek Shirke, the son of deceased Assistant Sub-Inspector Dilip Shirke, on Monday alleged that his father was driven over the edge due to the harassment meted out by Assistant Police Inspector Deepak Shinde at the Vakola police station. Abhishek claimed that Shinde regularly harassed his father for the last six months and made false allegations against him, which led to Saturday night’s shootout.

Speaking to the media on Monday at his residence in the police colony in Kalina, Abhishek (27), said that API Shinde was responsible for his father’s as well as Joshi’s death, as he passed on wrong information to Joshi, and was the one who made false entries about his father’s absence in the station diary.

“On various occasions, Shinde  made false allegations against my father, about which he told us after reaching home some days ago. He was misleading Joshi about my father, due to which Joshi shouted at my father in front of other officers on various occasions. He was even planning to meet the Police Commissioner regarding this harassment,” said Abhishek.

Shirke’s wife Dipti added, “My husband was on duty on the combat van for more than two months, and had the pistol with him the entire time but never did something so extreme. This time, something obviously went wrong, which led him to take the extreme step.” Abhishek further alleged that Shirke had complaint to DCP (Zone VIII) Virendra Mishra about the problems he was facing, but was not taken seriously.
